Skype’s anunal revenue more than $70 million

September 7th, 2005

In an interview in today’s issue of Swedish business weekly Affärsvärlden Skype co-founder and CEO Niklas Zennström shed some light on the company’s revenue. Skype has 51 million registered users and more than 2 million customers. Registered users are growing 130,000 per day. Nothing new, really.

More interesting was the information about Skype’s monthly revenue per user. According to Niklas Zennström Skype’s has income of “a couple of few dollars per month per customer”. Assuming that a couple of dollars equals three dollars, Skype has annual revenue of $72+ million. This is a figure far higher than the $10 million number mentioned by Bambi Francisco at the Always On 2005 conference.

note: “a couple of dollars…” changed to “a few dollars…” to better capture the nuance of the Swedish word “några”. The qoute attributed to Niklas Zennström read “Intäkterna ligger på några dollar i månaden per kund” in Swedish.

Today I have been blogging about the ‘net, e-commerce and online media almost daily for three years. I take a retrospective look at the last couple of years in my Swedish blog (turned out to become a nice timeline).

Off to the races

August 20th, 2005

There will be no first, great post to kickstart this blog. Rather I will just get going in the lines of the perpetual beta of Web 2.0. My Swedish blog is pretty focused on online media, e-commerce and other Internet-related stuff. Those subjects are likely to be the backbone of this English blog too, but I’m likely to wander into other interesting subject as well.
